I have a ton of books on my many book shelves and one that I was compelled to pick up today was from legendary Zig Ziglar. This book, Top Performance
, reveals an interesting fact:
Fifteen percent of the reason you get a job, keep that job, and move ahead in that job, is determined by your technical skills and knowledge – regardless of your profession!
Guess what accounts for the remaining 85 percent of your job success? People skills and people knowledge.
So next time you think you need to take that computer programming course or that business writing class, think again. Or when you say, "I'm not a 'people person,'" remember that if you want to succeed in your job, you have to transform yourself into one!
